Harry Styles notches up a third accumulated week at No.1 in Australia with his 'Harry's House' lead single "As it Was".
The single became the fifth No.1 for 2022 (and the first new) on April 11th, and of the six overall chart-topping singles for 2022, this track last week became the fifth song to return to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart during this calendar year. "As it Was" racks up it's second sales certification this week, as it hits ▲Platinum in sales, two weeks after it achieved Gold (April 25th), while Harry's track is also holding at No.1 in England, Ireland (both fifth week), The U.S.A. and Canada (both third week).
Jack Harlow issued his new album "Come Home the Kids Miss You" on Friday, which could make his former No.1 "First Class" return to the top next week (maybe), as it remains at No.2 again this week, while it logs a fourth week at the top in New Zealand. But with new tracks from Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift (just issued) and Lizzo (debuting), the male dominated #1's this year could be in for a femme-led revival in the next few weeks (Mariah and Dua did top the charts this year, but with former #1's)?
The entire top five singles are on hold this week, with Glass Animals' "Heat Waves" (WI10-66, still the longest of all time) at No.3, last week's highest new entry for "Thousand Miles" by The Kid Laroi (US.TW #15 debut) holds at it's entry peak of No.4, while he follows it with his "Stay" track alongside Justin Bieber at No.5 (WI10-43, 3rd longest of all time), with the song newly certified as 8x▲Platinum, plus The Kid Laroi also picked up the APRA Award for 'Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year' this past week, plus his national tour starts soon.
Last week Latto saw her track "Big Energy" enter the Top 10 at No.10, and now this week it leaps up four places to score a new peak of No.6, while the song holds at No.4 in the U.S., it's only other Top 10 berth. Latto's leap pushes down the rest of last week's Top 10 singles by one place apiece, with the two Ed Sheeran tracks "Bad Habits" (WI10-44, second longest) and "Shivers" (WI10-33, seventh longest) dipping to No.7 and No.10 respectively, while Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott's "Where Are You Now" and Elton John with Dua Lipa's mash-up for "Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)" (WI10-38, sixth longest) move to No.8 and No.9 respectively.
UP: With Mother's Day this weekend in Australia it has seen a rise in Adele sales, plus this past week her 'Live in London' special was screened on TV here, which helps her former No.1 song "Easy on Me" to leap back up five places to No.16, the only climbing track within the Top 20 this week. Two tracks which leap up into the Top 30 are the 2015 Willow track "Wait a Minute!", jumping twelve spots to a new peak of No.25, followed by the three week old entry for Lauren Spencer-Smith and "Flowers", which perks up fifteen chart-rungs to land at No.26, also a new peak position. The last two climbers also score new peaks this week too, as last week's lower fifty entry for L.A. singer Leah Kate called "10 Things I Hate About You" jumps up twenty-seven places to land within the Top 40 at No.38, her first chart entry, while the other 2015-climber is the J. Cole track "No Role Modelz", which moves back up three spots to land at a new chart height of No.44.
DOWN: No songs depart the Top 10 this week, with two Lil' Nas X titles moving down within the Top 20, "Industry Baby" (12 to No.14) and "That's What I Want" (17 to No.20), plus "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" is newly 5x▲Platinum. Gayle and Camila Cabello with Ed Sheeran remain at No.11 and No.13 respectively, while DAVE's "Starlight" track falls four places to land at No.18. After two weeks at a peak of No.18, the SUPER-HI and Neeka track "Following the Sun" falls three spots to No.21, while Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U" falls four spots to it's second-lowest position of No.24 (it dropped as low as #33 on January 3rd). Falling five places apiece are "Enemy" for Imagine Dragons, "Watermelon Sugar'' by Harry Styles and the "Down Under" remix by Luude and Colin Hay to No.27, No.30 and No.31 respectively. Doja Cat just issued a new track on Friday from the 'ELVIS' soundtrack called "Vegas" (which samples Big Mama Thorton's version of "Hound Dog"), and this week she falls down with "Kiss Me More", dipping nine to No.33, and "Woman", down only two spots to No.34. Dean Lewis falls seven to No.36 with his latest track "Hurtless", while the cover of "Tom's Diner" for AnnenMayKantereit and Giant Rocks falls down twelve spots to No.40 (Sofi Tukker sampled 'Tom's Diner' on a new track from their 'Wet Tennis' album this past week too). Lower Top 50 drops also occur for Billie Eilish and "Happier Than Ever" (36 to No.41), the new Shawn Mendes entry "When You're Gone" (33 to No.43), "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac (39 to No.45), "In My Head" for Lil' TJay (40 to No.48) and the biggest fall of the week (within the T50) is a sixteen place slide to No.47 for the 'Encanto' track "We Don't Talk About Bruno".
NEW ENTRIES: * #12 - About Damn Time by Lizzo (Nice Life/Atlantic) is the lead single from Lizzo's July 15th due fourth studio album named "Special", with her last chart entry "Rumors" debuting and peaking at No.16 in late August of 2021, while all up this is her fourth Top 20 single after "Truth Hurts" (HP-15) and her only previous Top 10 entry "Good as Hell" (HP-6), both from 2019.
* #15 - Wait for U by Future feat. Drake and Tems (Epic) is the lead single from the U.S. rappers new album "I Never Liked You", which becomes his first #1 album in both Australia and New Zealand this week, while this song becomes his 18th Top 100 and 12th Top 50 entry locally, while it's also his fifth collaboration with Drake after "Jumpman" (HP-47, late April 2016), "Life is Good" (HP-11, Jan 2020), and then two tracks from Drake's "Certified Lover Boy" set "Way 2 Sexy" (HP-7) and "N 2 Deep" (HP-19, both Sept. 13th, 2021).
* #28 - Honest by Justin Bieber feat. Don Toliver (Def Jam) is the lead single from a forthcoming new album for the Canadian act, who is also currently within the Top 50 at No.5 as guest on the Kid Laroi track "Stay" and his record holder for 'Longest Running Top 20 entry {without hitting the Top 10}' in "Ghost", which is down two spots to No.17 this week and logging it's 28th week within the twenty.
* #35 - In the Stars by Benson Boone (Night Street/Warner) is the first Top 50 and second Top 100 entry for the 19 year old American singer/songwriter, who first charted last year with his debut single "Ghost Town" (HP-67, 22nd of November, 2021). His new single has already cracked the Top 10 in Norway (#4), Sweden (#8) and Ireland (#10).
* #49 - That That by Psy feat. Suga & BTS (P NATION/Dreamus) is a triple-Korean track from the new Psy album called "Psy 9th", alongside BTS and Korean producer Suga, with the video already racking up 106M views in it's first seven days (as of Saturday), plus the new entry becomes the third Top 50 entry for Psy after his 2012 No.1 single "Gangnam Style" and it's April 2013 follow-up "Gentleman" (HP-15).
The ninth studio album for U.S. rapper Future called "I Never Liked You" becomes his first No.1 Album in Australia this week.
"I Never Liked You" (Epic) becomes the 946th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2022), the 797th for ARIA (1983 to 2022), the 582nd to debut at No.1, the 15th chart-topping album for 2022 and the 35th for the record label Epic and their second for 2022 after their first (from 1978) returned in late January for Meat Loaf with "Bat Out of Hell".
This is the third week in a row where someone's 'Future' was in the top two, with Daniel Johns' "FutureNever" coming in at No.2 last week, and Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" returning for a third berth at the top two weeks prior, while the last rapper at No.1 locally was from Huskii on February 21st with his debut album "Antihero". Future has now racked up nine Album Chart entries (6 studio albums, 3 collaboration mixtapes), while this new entry is now his second Top 10 entry after his collaborative mixtape with Drake called "What a Time to Be Alive" debuted and peaked at No.4 in late September, 2015.
This is the third No.1 album with the word 'never' in it's title after Juice WLRD and "Legends Never Die" (1 week on July 27th, 2020) and The Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies)" (3 weeks from June 15th, 2009). It's also the 16th 'you' but the first ever 'liked' although there have been several 'like' albums in the past, but never an expanded 'liked'.
The new No.1 Album here has also debuted at the top in New Zealand and Lithuania, No.2 in England and The Netherlands, No.5 in Norway and No.6 in Ireland, while here it becomes the 331st No.1 for an American Artist (solo male or female, duo or group) (the fifth for 2022), the 270th by a Solo Male Artist (local or overseas) (the sixth for 2022), while Future becomes the 163rd American Artist to hit the top here and he also becomes the 55th Solo U.S. Male Act to hit No.1 in Australia.
Olivia Rodrigo is back up one spot to No.2 with her debut album "SOUR" (#15 vinyl), which is only two weeks shy of it's one-year anniversary, after which is the second and final Top 10 entry, debuting at No.3 is the eighth studio album for German NDH act Rammstein called "Zeit" (Time) (#11 vinyl), becoming their highest charted album in Australia and now their fifth Top 10 Album, with their self-titled late May 2019 album being their last entry and previous highest at No.5. Their new album has landed at No.1 in their home country of Germany along with The Netherlands, France, Norway, Scotland and Sweden plus a No.3 entry in England.
Harry Styles and his second set "Fine Line" (#6 vinyl) remains the only non-mover within the Top 10 this week, stable at No.4, followed by a twenty-nine place rebound to No.5 for the fourth Adele album "30", with two factors helping it to leap back up this week, one is Mother's Day in Australia this weekend, while during the past week her 'Live in London' TV special was screened here, plus her two older albums "25" and "21" jump back up into the Top 40.
Doja Cat's "Planet Her" and Ed Sheeran's "= (Equals)" are both down one spot each to No.6 and No.7 respectively, while Doja Cat sees her album crack ▲Platinum in sales this week (it went Gold on Nov 15th, 2021). The Weeknd's latest studio album "Dawn FM" was issued on vinyl last week and it is the new No.1 selling vinyl album this week, which helps his set to rebound twenty-two spots this week to land at No.8, which is followed by his other Top 10 entry "The Highlights", which drops two places to No.9. Returning to the ten at No.10, up three spots from last week, is Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" (#10 vinyl), clocking up it's 63rd week within the top 10.
UP: Eminem's and Maroon 5's best of sets climb back up to No.14 and No.16 respectively, while new entries recently for Justin Bieber (#28 this week) and The Kid Laroi (#4 this and last week) see their albums rise back up to No.15 and No.18 respectively, while Kid Laroi also won the APRA 'Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year' this past week and he starts his national tour at the end of this month. Luke Combs issued another new track called "Tomorrow Me" from his June 24th due third album "Growin' Up" two weeks ago, and his older albums again rebound this week, with "What You See Ain't Always What You Get" back up seven spots to No.20 while his first set "This One's for You" rebounds eight places to No.24. Taylor Swift issued the song "This Love (Taylor's Version)" on Friday from her upcoming updated "1989", while the original album rises back up eight places this week to No.23, plus she also rises with her "Lover" (44 to No.40) and also returns to the Top 50 at No.50 with her "Reputation" (up six spots). Adele's third album "25" rebounds twenty-two spots to it's name-sake of No.25 this week, only it's third time at it's title-position, the other two were on September 18th, 2017 and the first was the 7th of November, 2016, plus she also makes a sixty-three place jump back up to No.35 with her second set "21" (see the Top 10 above for the explanation of her rises). The only two other climbing best of sets this week are for Elton John (29 to No.26) and Foo Fighters (up one spot to No.42), while Drake has a six place rise to No.27 with his "Certified Lover Boy" album, with five place rises for both "After Hours" by The Weeknd and "Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon" by Pop Smoke to No.31 and No.32 respectively. Norah Jones' debut 2002 album "Come Away With Me" (#18 vinyl) returns to the Top 100 at No.36 thanks to a vinyl sales surge, while Lewis Capaldi's debut set "Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent" races back up the chart twenty-three spots to land at No.37, with three further lower fifty returns this week being for Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' soundtrack (55 to No.39), Michael Buble's "Higher" (74 to No.43, thanks to Mother's Day) and returning judge on 'The Voice' Guy Sebastian sees his last studio album "T.R.U.T.H." jump back up twenty-five spots to No.48.
DOWN: Leaving the Top 10 this week are five albums, with last week's top two entries leaving in "Obsidian" (#1) for Northlane down thirty-two places to No.33 and Daniel Johns' "FutureNever" (#2) falling nine places to No.11. The self-titled debut album for Harry Styles (HP-1, WI10-7a) falls back down three to No.12, as too does the 'Encanto' (HP-1, WI10-17) soundtrack, to No.13; it's first week outside of the Top 10 since it debut at No.29 in the first week of the year (Jan 3rd). The fifth and final dropout was last week's No.8 entry for local act Ocean Grove with "Up in the Air Forever", which falls into the lower fifty this week. The only other Top 20 album which drops is the debut Billie Eilish set "When We All Fall Asleep...", which declines four spots to No.19, while her second set "Happier Than Ever" is back down three to No.22. Taylor's two falling albums (of five Top 50 entries) are "Red (TsV)" down two to No.28 and "folklore" falling seven spots to No.30. The recent No.1 for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and "Unlimited Love" expires sixteen places this week to No.34, while same-time-line artist Nirvana and their "Nevermind" (#13 vinyl) set dips three places to No.38. Kendrick's "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City" (#19 vinyl) drops four to No.44, INXS' "Very Best of" falls six to No.47 and Machine Gun Kelly's "Mainstream Sellout" tumbles down ten spots to No.49, with further fallouts from last weeks Top 50 being for Pusha T (#11, U.S. and Canadian #1 this past week), Flight Facilities returned "Down to Earth" set (#12), Fontaines D.C. (#24) and Jack White (#25).
FURTHER NEW ENTRY: * #1 (LP#9) - I Never Liked You by Future (Epic)
* #3 (LP#8) - Zeit by Rammstein (Vertigo/Capitol)
* #29 (Live#1) - Live from South Channel Island by Mildlife ([PIAS] Australia) is the first live album for the Melbourne psych-jazz act, which is also the soundtrack to their companion film and was recorded on the man-made island in Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay. smh I prepared those Lewis Capaldi & Goo Goo Dolls chart runs for nothing, maybe next week.
What're y'all spinnin'? I chucked on Arcade Fire's new album just before because I'm living vicariously through successful Canadians lately and it's better than expected! Might check out Future in a bit, didn't expect him to beat Rammstein to #1!
I know we've kind of re-entered an era where plenty of songs debut low and then gain in the following weeks (instead of debuting high and falling quickly) but what is supposed to be Bieber's lead single from his next album debuting at number 28... (I've seen some pop forums saying if it underperforms they'll just relegate it to a bonus track and go with another song, which does happen a bit nowadays. Demi Lovato's mess of a last album rollout, et al) Last edited:
So Bullion's chartifacts explains the rise for adele which i had noticed on itunes this week, now if someone can explain why lewis capaldi was doing so well i'd be very appreciative. I thought maybe it was to do with the voice or somethin.
Is in inevitable now that Justin Bieber will overtake Rihanna either next week or the following week.
These are the long standing Aria Top 50 Chart Leaders: Madonna from 9 Jan 1994 - 27 Nov 2011 (18 Years) Rihanna from 4 Dec 2011 - 7 or 14 May 2022 (10.5 Years) Justin Bieber 14 or 21 May 2022
This is as good a place as any, but curious if anyone knows how the rules work when someone quotes a line of a song in their own track but isn't sampling the music(if that makes sense) would royalties still apply or is this a grey area in the music industry?
Depends on the extent but usually warrants a writing credit. For instance "Hold Up" by Beyonce's chorus takes the line 'hold up, they don't love you like I love you', which is a riff on "Maps" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs except it was a tweet by Ezra Koenig, so both of them get a writing credit.
Conversely though, "2002" by Anne-Marie lends out no writing credits probably because the individual segments are so small that it's more utilising them as a reference rather than utilising the melodic ideas from the song.
Thanks guys. The track i was thinking of was a song that i heard a snippet of by iggy azalea where she quotes the first line of the chorus of 'all around the world' by lisa stansfield. I'd forgotten how good a track 'maps' is
