Singles Chartifacts:
On the eighth day of the eighth month, Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" claims it's eighth overall week at No.1 in Australia.

Australia along with Sweden and Switzerland were the first counties to make the 1985 classic a No.1 single, and now it seems as though Australia might also be it's last No.1 slot, as the track lost the top spot in Ireland this week (after 7 consecutive weeks at the top), the only other location other than us down under to have the song at No.1 last week, now we're the last outpost for it's banner flying, as "Running Up That Hill" claims it's eight week at the top here, it also becomes...
* The longest running No.1 single for 2022 (surpassing the 7 weeks for "As it Was").
* The longest No.1 locally by a solo female singer this decade (Dua Lipa's 10 weeks were part of a duet).
* The outright fourth longest running No.1 this decade.
* Kate's longest running Top 10 single in Australia from her five Top 10 entries.("Wuthering Heights" racked up eleven Top 10 weeks in 1978, now 'Running' has two weeks from 1985 and now ten weeks in 2022, making it now 12 overall weeks within the Top 10 locally).

Kate Bush also climbs to become the act at No.10 on the listing for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles (2020's)', while on the other listing for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles (1940 to 2022)' she climbs to equal 66th (up from =69th) with her eleven overall weeks at No.1 (from 2 #1's) alongside Cher, Culture Club, Billy Ocean, Normie Rowe and most recently Olivia Rodrigo. The 'Hill' is one of 47 songs to have spent eight weeks at No.1, and the song is also the sixth longest running No.1 for this decade too, the list below showing the longest for so far this decade
1 - 2021 - 17wks - Stay by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber
2 = 2020 - 11wks - Blinding Lights by The Weeknd
2 = 2020 - 11wks - Mood by 24GOLDN feat. Iann Dior
2 = 20/21- 11wks - Heat Waves by Glass Animals
3 - 20/21 - 10wks - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) by Elton John & Dua Lipa
4 - 2022 - 8 wks - Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) by Kate Bush
5 - 2022 - 7 wks - As it Was by Harry Styles

The current No.1 single in Canada for a fourteenth week is the Harry Styles track "As it Was", which here remains at No.2 again {the same position occurs for his latest album too}, logging it's 18th week within the Top 3 (it hasn't dropped any lower than No.3 for three straight weeks from June 27th to July 11th), after which is a five place climb to a new peak of No.3 for last week's highest new entry for Central Cee and "Doja", which claims a second week at No.1 in New Zealand this week, while the track made an impressive debut at No.16 in Canada this past week and is sitting at No.5 in Ireland and No.4 in England.

Australia, New Zealand and Ireland are so far the only locations to give Steve Lacy's track "Bad Habit" a Top 10 berth, as the song climbs one spot to a new peak of No.4 in Australia, while the track halves it's position in NZ by climbing three spots to No.3 and remains on hold at No.10 in Ireland, while it's jumped to No.11 in The U.S.A., No.14 in Canada and No.17 in England this week.

Glass Animals' "Heat Waves" dips one spot to No.5 after their local tour pushed the track back up to No.4 last week, while the song creates a new chart feat this week by logging it's 78th week within the Top 10 (still the longest of all time), but 78 weeks equates to one-and-a-half-years within the Top 10. Thanks to her seventh studio album debuting at No.1 this week, the seven week old lead single from Beyoncé's new album "Break My Soul" has leapt back up thirteen places this week to score it's third overall week within the Top 10, but more so the track has scored a new peak of No.6, plus seven further tracks from the album land within the Top 50 (more below).

After spending the past three weeks at No.3, and it's first seven chart weeks within the Top 4, the Joji track "Glimpse of Us" drops four places to land at No.7, followed by two further declining tracks in the OneRepublic track "I Ain't Worried" (6 to No.8, climbs to a new peak of No.2 in New Zealand), and the second-week running U.S. No.1 single for Lizzo and "About Damn Time", which is also down two spots here to No.9. Doja Cat again has two tracks within the Top 10, one she's performing on and one she's name-checked in, with her vocal contributions featuring on the Post Malone track "I Like You (A Happier Song)", which is back up one spot to No.10 (fourth week in T10), which replaces her Top 10 dropout track "Vegas" (down to No.12).

UP:
One holding and one climbing track within the Top 20 this week, with "Cold Heart" for Elton and Dua not budging from No.14, while it's followed by the Nicky Youre and dazy track "Sunroof", which rises four places to a new peak of No.15, plus after eight weeks within the Top 50 and nine within the Top 100, the track is newly Gold (●) in sales.

Harry Styles' only other Top 50 entry "Late Night Talking" along with Lost Frequencies' "Where Are You Now" remain on hold at No.22 and No.23 respectively, after which is the biggest climber within the chart this week, as Eurovision 2022 entry from Armenia Rosa Linn sees her fifth placed finals track "SNAP" leap up forty-one spots to score a new chart height of No.23 this week (third week within the Top 100), the track gaining traction post-Eurovision thanks to social media and TikTok.

The Killers issued a new track on Friday called "boy", while their 2004 classic "Mr. Brightside" is back up to No.28, followed by another new peak for "Sway My Way" by R3HAB and Amy Shark, rising four places to land at No.29. Another older track to climb this week is the 2012 recent first-time entry for The Neighbourhood song "Sweater Weather", up eighteen places to land first week within the Top 50 at No.37 (fourth week within the Top 100), while other songs climbing into the fifty for their first T50 appearance's are Tom Odell's "Another Love" (66 to No.43, twelfth week within the Top 100) and last week saw a few older tracks by The Weeknd return to the Top 100, with "Die for You" from 2017 this week climbing seven places to No.44 (it's first ever Top 100 appearance), while he also returned with "Call Out My Name" (LW-88, 2018 track), "I Was Never There" with Gesaffelstein (LW-98, 2018 entry), and a few weeks ago "Starboy" (LW-73, 2016 single).

DOWN:
Two songs leave the Top 10 this week, both dropping two places each, with "First Class" (HP-1x2, WI10-16) by Jack Harlow leaving the Top 10 for the first time, down to No.11, followed by "Vegas" by Doja Cat (HP-4x2, WI10-6), down to No.12, while the 'ELVIS' soundtrack that it's taken from has leapt back into the Albums chart at No.4 this week thanks to it's physical release last week.

Both The Kid Laroi and Ed Sheeran have two songs within the Top 20, Kid's "Stay" (12 to No.13) and "Thousand Miles'' (17 to No.19), surround the back-to-back Ed tracks in "Bad Habits" and "Shivers'', both dipping two places apiece to No.17 and No.18 respectively, while the biggest decline within the Top 20 is a three place dip to No.16 for the Drake and 21 Savage track "Jimmy Cooks" to No.16, while the Future and Drake entry "Wait for U" dips two spots to No.30.

There are no major dropping tracks until the Top 40 this week, but within the Top 30 we see Yung Gravy's "Betty (Get Money)" drop back from it's No.24 peak last week to No.25 this week. Tate McRae's "She's All I Wanna Be" falls seven places to No.34, while last week's two new entries for Billie Eilish decline this week, with "TV" slipping thirteen places to No.36 and "The 30th" leaving the Top 50 from No.31 last week.

After three weeks of climbing back up the chart the Lil' Nas X track "Industry Baby" falls back down eight places to No.40, while the track picks up a new sales certification of 6x▲Platinum. Ed Sheeran reduces his Top 50 tally of five last week to three this week, as his Camila Cabello duet "Bam Bam" falls down nine places to No.45, while he departs with his Russ new entry from last week "Are You Entertained" (No.45) and Lil' Baby duet with "2Step" (No.49). Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U" also falls nine places, down to No.47; The Weeknd sees an eleven place slide to No.48 for his 2020 No.1 single "Blinding Lights", and J. Cole's "No Role Modelz" slips back down six to No.49 after re-peaking at No.43 last week.

Albums Chartifacts:
Beyoncé's seventh studio album and first in six years "Renaissance (Act 1)" takes out the top spot in Australia this week.

"Renaissance (Act 1)" (Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia) becomes the 953rd No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2022), the 804th for ARIA (1983 to 2022), the 588th to debut at No.1, the 22nd chart-topping album for 2022 and the 54th for Columbia (thru Sony) records, which also dethrones another of their albums, the latest Harry Styles set. The new No.1 here has also landed at the top in New Zealand, England, Ireland, The Netherlands, France, Scotland and Sweden (so far), while it's also the No.4 selling vinyl locally.

The new Beyoncé No.1 album is also her third in Australia after her last set "Lemonade" (LP#6, 1 week on May 2nd, 2016), while her fifth self-titled album was her first solo No.1, holding for three weeks from January 6th, 2014 (helped by "Irreplaceable" as the No.1 single at the time), plus this is also her eighth Top 10 Album, as all of her seven solo albums have landed within the Top 10, plus her June 2016 collaboration album with her husband Jay-Z under The Carters called "Everything is Love" made it to No.6. I've also called her new album 'Act 1', as two further volumes in the series are due in the future (no date or exact titles known as yet).

Beyoncé is now equal 83rd on the listing for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums (1965 to 2022)' alongside other acts with five weeks from 3 No.1 Albums like Nirvana, The Black Eyed Peas and Anthony Callea, while this is the first time that the word 'Renaissance' has appeared in a No.1 Album's title. Hopefully she can hold on for another week, but Eminem just issued his second best of collection "Curtain Call 2", a double album of his past duets and collaborations.

The new No.1 Album also becomes the first at the top by an American Act since May 23rd (Kendrick Lamar), and overall this is the 333rd No.1 by an American (solo male or female, duo or group) (7th for 2022), while for Solo Female Artists this album becomes the 151st to hit No.1 in Australia (3rd for 2022), with the other two this year being by Dua Lipa (last one on April 25th) and Charli XCX (March 28th) {although Adele was No.1 in the first two weeks of the year, laid over from last years run}. For American Solo Female Artists Beyoncé is now equal fifth alongside Mariah Carey and Barbra Streisand for 'Most No.1 Albums', ahead of them on four are Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga (equal fourth), in third is Pink (6 #1's), followed by Taylor Swift (9 #1's) and Madonna (11 No.1 Albums).

After seven accumulated weeks at No.1 the Harry Styles third album "Harry's House" dips down one spot to No.2, while it remains at the top in Canada (5th week), and is the No.8 selling vinyl this week, and after eleven weeks of remaining within the Top 3 positions, the album has now been certified ▲Platinum in sales (it went Gold on June 27th), while the set matches the position the album's lead single "As it Was" is on this week's singles chart.

Last week The Weeknd re-peaked at No.2 (it debuted there originally on Feb. 15th, 2021) with his collection "The Highlights", with the set down one spot this week to No.3, marking two chart milestones as well; logging it's 52nd week (one year) within the Top 10, plus it also racks up it's 78th week within the Top 20/100 (it's never been lower than No.17 on Oct. 25th and Nov. 29th of 2021), which is equivalent to one-and-a-half years of charting.

Zooming back into the Top 100, up ninety-eight places from last week is the 'ELVIS' soundtrack, which is boosted back up the charts thanks to a physical release of the Baz Luhrmann film's music, plus this is now the album's highest position and first week within the Top 10, as the set initially debuted and peaked at No.22 on July 4th, after which is a two place dip to No.5 for the Olivia Rodrigo album "SOUR", still logging it's 63rd week within the chart and also the Top 10.

The fourth studio album and now third Top 10 placement for Brisbane rock act Dune Rats called "Real Rare Whale" debuts at No.6 this week (No.2 vinyl), coming two-and-a-half years after their last album "Hurry Up and Wait" (No.1 for one week on Feb. 10th, 2020) and their second album/first No.1 "The Kids Will Know it's Bullshit" (1 week on Feb. 13th, 2017). Fellow Brisbane-ites Beddy Rays, who've toured with Dune Rats in the past, see their self-titled debut album enter at No.8 this week, while that album also takes the No.1 spot on the vinyl sales chart this week too.

Sandwiched in between those two new entries is the Ed Sheeran album "= (equals)", which drops down three places to land at No.7, while Doja Cat sees "Planet Her" dip two spots to No.9. The most recent album for last-week's tourist here Tyler, the Creator and "Call Me if You Get Lost" rebounds back up twenty-one places after his visit, landing at No.10 this week (No.12 vinyl), logging it's fourth overall week within the Top 10 (two initial weeks on July 5th and 12th, 2021, and then after it's vinyl release it shot back up to No.10 on April 25th of this year), while Tyler also has another jumping album in "Igor", which leaps fourteen spots to land at No.12 (No.11 vinyl).

UP:
After the two Tyler jumping albums, the next significant climb sees Taylor Swift's "folklore" rise back up seven places to No.26 (her only climber this week). The Weeknd stays stable at No.14 with his "Starboy" set and rises with the "After Hours" album, up three to No.29, while Luke Combs rises with his first two albums "What You See Ain't Always What You Get" (36 to No.30) and "This One's for You" (34 to No.32).

"AM" for The Arctic Monkeys rises for a fifth consecutive week, this week up four to No.33 (No.18 vinyl), while a No.3 spot on the vinyl sales chart this week for "ReWiggled" by The Wiggles, sees that album return to the chart at No.40 (LW-507), while the last major climb of the week goes to the Foo Fighters "Greatest Hits" set, back up nine places to land at No.50.

DOWN:
Five albums leave the Top 10 this week, with the latest Luke Combs album "Growin' Up" (HP-2x2, WI10-5) down five spots to No.11, while Harry Styles' second set "Fine Line" (HP-1x3, WI10-84a) drops five places also, down to No.13. Last week's rebound to No.9 for Taylor Swift's "1989" set (HP-1x9, WI10-70a), is this week down ten places to No.19, while Drake's "Honestly, Nevermind" (HP-2, WI10-6) falls fourteen chart-rungs to land down at No.24, with last week's highest new entry for Amber Lawrence and "Living for the Highlights" (HP-5), leaving the Top 50 this week after a single week within the Top 10.

Eminem's "Curtain Call: The Hits" almost got back into the Top 10 after climbing to No.11 last week, this week it drops down four to No.15, but it could rebound next week due to his "Curtain Call 2" being issued on Friday, a double album of his collaborations over his career. Collections also drop for Elton John (12 to No.17) and Maroon 5 (17 to No.18), while the XXXTentacion "Look at Me" doco music is down one spot to No.16, still maintaining it's chart positions to only be one-of-three spots, 15 (3 weeks), 16 (now second week) or 17 (three weeks) during it's eight week chart run. Kid Laroi's mixtapes drop down five places to No.21, Post Malone's "12 Carat Toothache" set falls nine to No.22, while both Billie Eilish albums drop after last week's new-singles-entry rise, with 'Sleep' down six to No.25 and 'Happier' falling eight to No.36, it's second ever lowest chart position.

Spacey Jane's latest set "Here Comes Everybody" falls seven to No.27 (No.14 vinyl), while down five places each are "Rumours" for Fleetwood Mac (23 to No.28) and "Justice" for Justin Bieber (29 to No.34), it's now lowest ever chart spot. Lizzo's three week old entry "Special" and the 'Stranger Things Season 4' soundtrack both fall eleven spots each to No.35 and No.38 respectively, while in between those two is a sixteen place slide to No.37 for The Weeknd album "Dawn FM". Jack Harlow falls eight spots to No.43 with his "Come Home the Kids Miss You" set, while Taylor Swift has three back-to-back and declining albums in "Red (TsV)" (38 to No.46), "Lover" (40 to No.47) and "Reputation" (44 to No.48).

Well, that answers the question about whether ARIA were limiting the damage caused by album bombs. Shame on you, Sony! (or as George Michael dubbed them, Fony)
Thank God Sony allowed all Beyoncé tracks to chart Great to see Sweater Weather and Another Love make the Top 50.

New cert below the Top 50:

Sr - Welcome To Brixton: Platinum
Manifesting "See You Again" to finally chart next week 🙏
Finally "SNAP" by Rosa Linn is in!
Looks like Chris Brown's "Under the influence" is biggest omission for the week as that's well in the top 30 on the Spotify weekly chart.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony didn't allow it to chart on purpose, so that Beyoncé could have as many songs as possible in this week's Top 50.
Is this an age thing, I wonder? I've been an avid follower of the weekly ARIA charts for nearly forty years. But I'm becoming increasingly dismayed by, and disengaged from, their content. It's not the music, per se, coz there's still a lot of it that I really like, despite me staring down the barrel of 50!

Imagine that ARIA was a publishing house and the ARIA Charts were “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”. ARIA keeps publishing 2LUTS week after week, year after year, and they keep the story superficially the same. Except these days, they’re cobbling together data from multiple different sources to calculate the relevant numbers, which incidentally are now a different unit of measurement. The current data now show that its actually “2,440,000 Statute Mile Equivalent Leagues Under The Sea”, but ARIA doesn’t make any transparent or easily-accessible reference to those figures, nor how they relate back to the original figures — or, when they do, the explanation is so convoluted that people lose consciousness trying to understand it. They don’t make any changes to how it’s all presented, so on the surface it still looks like exactly the same story, citing exactly the same numbers, week after week, despite all of us knowing it really isn’t the same story at all…. right? I know none of that makes sense. But it makes about as much sense as what ARIA’s currently doing.

I could ramble on and on about this, citing specific examples to support why I believe it all makes so little sense, but I'll spare you the privilege of having to TLDR it
chartifacts updated for this week

is it possible to know Beyonce's Renaissance sales?
also I'm curious if there's Vinyl sales in it (sold out limited vinyl from US) and box set too. is box set allowed in Aus album chart?
Beyonce is #4 on the vinyl chart ftr.
By the way, I don't think it's an unreasonable view to have tinascousin. Not really an age thing either except that you'd be able to recall a different era.

Honestly I think a lot of the time seeing how the sausage is made can hurt one's perception, because I know plenty of people who just take it at face value (and again, comparing it to different eras shows how it feels it's *supposed* to be). You can say this of any era of course. Once you can interpret direct cause & effect on the chart, it stops feeling as meaningful. Be that a playlist on Spotify netting a guaranteed bar of streams, a frontpage placement on iTunes, sufficient radio play, soundtrack syncs, televised performances, whatnot. A lot of what gets considered 'organic' chart performance is rarely anything resembling it.

It's kind of why I don't get particularly bothered about the chart being how it is (aside from songs being omitted which I think damages the credibility), because the chart in its purest form is merely telling us what registers the best numbers under the system in place. We can debate how appropriate the set up is, a fair argument could be made that streams count for too much, but also another argument could say downloads count for too much and there's truth to both sides. One could even argue that for as interesting as it may be, even the classic model of most purchased singles is itself quite misleading to the bigger picture too. A lot of Billboard/OCC chart runs have to be examined with extended context of what the charts are like in the year they took place, sometimes more so than the general populace's musical inclinations! But I see the chart as kind of a definitive week to week statement of what came out on top. As a sturdy rock that does just that, it's mostly fine. The way popular music is being consumed has changed so much in just the last 10 years that there isn't really a solution*

*That being said, you could argue that there's a problem in a severe lack of big promotional pushes happening in this country right now. Radio has been barely adding 1 new song a week, iTunes only just updated its Hot Singles page for the first time in over 6(!) weeks, which was previously just empowering the incumbents. The biggest Spotify playlist in the country thinks that more people right now want to listen to that years old "Tom's Diner" cover that came and went months ago than the song that's currently sitting at #2 on our Spotify chart right now. So when the systems in place aren't even cycling out the old for the new, you're gonna get a weird chart like this.
@Gavin: Irreplaceable was part of B'Day, not Beyoncé's self titled.
@ Hijinx
thanks.
I guess 1k ish sales. it was #1 on UK vinyl album chart with 2.7k sales.
oops, ta I.E.
lower entries updated, one extra cert.

No new lower 50 peaks
Would it be fair to say that it's actually the original version of Summertime Sadness that's charting?
I was under the impression that it was the cedric gervais version that was charting, but as i don't know the song i couldn't tell you with 100% certainty
@savage I'd say yes, the original is definitely getting most of its streams at the moment.
On the whole both versions must be slowly getting pretty close in overall sales.
Ooh, it's so tempting to make the re-entry of the remix a "new" entry for the original version instead but that would require updates to a Hottest 100 and also a Digital Tracks list on my site so I can't be arsed, for now. Will see what it does.
I've added this week's ARIA Top 100 Singles chart entries to my site.
