Insufferable piece of dreck.<br><br>To elaborate; Wake Me Up was a big hit and a great song. It also brought back house music into mainstream but then he proceeded to butcher the genre by releasing the same old shit over and over again. I can't tolerate this any longer. This kindergarten friendly song is especially offensive because it sounds like he's become a parody of himself.

Thank fuck it isn't another "Wake Me Up" or "Hey Brother".<br><br>In all seriousness though, I love this. I love that the melody (particularly in the first verse) sounds like the melody in "I Will Never Let You Down" imo. I also really like the beat in the first verses which is oddly reminiscent of the intro of Nora En Pure's "You Are My Pride". I love how it deviates from expectations towards the end with the "Dear Boy" esque minute long breakdown. Robbie's vocals really disappointed me initially, coming across as clumsy and cheesy. I still think that to an extent, though it's only really a problem in the chorus now for me. A brilliant comeback and while it's not the most original or groundbreaking dance track and Avicii has stacks better, it's still brilliant. Maybe the best thing about it though is the top part of my review. I'm so glad there probably won't be a "Wake Me Up" or "Hey Brother" on the upcoming album. It has gotten me really excited for what Avicii has planned next. Rather disappointed by its success here in Australia though, but at least it managed to just clinch a top 10 peak.<br><br><br>Edit (22/03/2015):<br><br>Oh who I am kidding this is nothing that good and weak for a comeback. I still enjoy it but it has depreciated a lot over the past few months. The melody and xylophone inclusion are good things which hold it up to the standard it is at. I also still love the ending but the production in others parts is rather standard. There's also no excuse for Robbie's clumsy vocals, especially in the chorus where it's really cringeworthy.<br><br>I still like this but this era is leaving me cold so far with this track not having much longevity for me and the fact that it looks like "The Nights" will be on the album given that it was a bigger hit than this. It may not be another "Wake Me Up", "Hey Brother" or "The Nights" but it's still not good enough. C'mon Avicii you can do better than this!

I've noticed that this has the exact same tempo as You Make Me, consequently it brings back fond memories of that time in my life. Aside from that, I love the presence of Robbie Williams, and the fact that the structure of the song is different from normal Avicii/progressive house. It also reminds me of Red Lights a bit, which could cause some hate from some quarters. All in all, I unsurprisingly love it already.<br><br>Also, are they Troll Dolls on the cover?? |

Ik voorzie weer een hit van Avicii, en van mij mag dat gebeuren, want ik ben best verrast door deze vernieuwende en originele single van Avicii. Het klinkt vrolijk, het is catchy, het is erg dansbaar, de zang en productie zijn prima en Avicii houdt het neutraal, waardoor het erg fijn klinkt. Niets negatiefs over te zeggen. Beter dan 'Hey Brother' en 'Addicted To You. Ja, dit had ik niet helemaal verwacht!

Ich hab den Song gehört und lange nachgedacht, wer da wohl singen könnte. Ich kam zum Schluss, dass es wohl wieder irgend ein unbekannter Schwede sei. Tja, geschnitten würd ich sagen, der grosse Mister Williams singt. Jetzt, wo ich es weiss wirds mir auch klar denn man hörts schon aber er tönt irgendwie nicht nach typisch Robbie Williams, gefällt mir aber enorm. Aviciis Produktion überrascht nicht gross, ist aber anders als die des True Albums aber trotzdem klar Avicii, find ich genial. <br><br>Ich hoffe, es gibt einen weiteren Hit, denn ich mag den Song ungemein, hätte auch in den Sommer gepasst. Nach nur wenigen Hörgängen gibts gleich die Höchstnote, klare 6* :) |

Also in Sachen Unterhaltungswert ist das wirklich ein sehr stark produzierter Titel. Für mich sind aber auch immer musikalischer Mehrwert und Kreativität bedeutende Punkte und da muss ich sagen, dass mich der Titel einfach nicht in dem Maße umhaut, um den recht durchschaubaren Songaufbau zu kaschieren.<br><br>Von daher nur eine gute 4 für diese Zusammenarbeit von Avicii und Robbie Williams. |

Op het eerste gehoor meteen duidelijk dat je met een Avicii plaat te maken hebt! Dat klinkt natuurlijk weer lekker, maar het ontbreekt de dj nu echt een beetje aan inspiratie. Waar 'Wake Me Up' een totale verrassing was, 'Hey Brother' inhaakte op de hype en 'Addicted To You' leunde op ijzersterke vocalen, weet 'The Days' mij nergens te raken. Misschien komt het omdat de verwachtingen zo torenhoog waren na de geweldige singles van Avicii's vorige album of omdat Robbie Williams zelden teleurstelt, maar ik voel het hier niet. 'The Days' is niets meer dan een leuke, maar middelmatige single die nergens boven de toch al zo grijze massa uitsteekt. |

I recently saw Avicii's music described as "EDMOR", which, amusing portmanteau or not, makes an interesting thought. Because I've gotten the idea that Avicii has lately been flattening his sound to include other aspects. He doesn't need to do this necessarily, but I mean if you're gonna make your big gimmick 'omg EDM meets folk', it's probably best to keep the former aspect to the bare minimum to avoid confusing people. So it sounds about right that he can even get hits in the 'grr, dance music is evil' territory of the US, because it just seems like he's making EDM without any real personality to it beyond the template, so people can easily latch onto it and think 'hey, I like this trendy EDM music!'.<br><br>As a result of this, I feel he's been on a downward spiral lately. "The Days" just neuters things further. The funny thing about Avicii is that even though he never credits vocalists, they're what makes his hits distinctive from each other. I mean, "Wake Me Up", "Hey Brother" & "Addicted To You" pretty much all have the same tune in the background, but you remember them for what each of their vocalists brings to the table.<br><br>So you hit a problem when it comes to "The Days", because you get Robbie Williams who in this case is big on presence, but little in the way of personality. I don't get a vibe from this like I do his other recent hits, and Robbie sounds so hamfisted on this track that it's actively embarrassing to listen to. Which means all you have left to go with is the beat which, again is dulled beyond the point of interest. The only saving grace is at about 3:12 when finally things pick up, assumably because by then, radio listeners will have already decided that they like it and won't even notice that there's almost a minute and a half of this tacked onto the end. But even still, that's nowhere near as immersive as say "Levels" or "Silhouettes", so the whole thing coasts by me as extremely missable. 2.4 |
