This release is one big mistake.

Ok version by this newer bunch of musicians. Like the different lyrics and styles eg rock and rap in this.

11 weeks in the UK top 100. 1 million sold while at #1.

UK#1 and Ireland#1.

European Hot 100#1 (3 weeks).

The UK Christmas #1 of 2004.

World Chart Year End (2004): #23.

1.1 million copies sold in the UK.

there are some great harmonies but some of the voices stick out like a sore thumb and the rap is totally unnecessary! that bit sucks!

Not a great idea.

ok cover nothing real special

I don't hate it, but why is Dizzee Rascal on this? Completely out of place.
****
not much, better than the first version
***
Good concept for a good cause, but some of the musicians are a terrible choice for this (esp. Dizzee Rascal)

It starts with Chris Martin so that's good enough for me but yes Dizzee Rascal feels out of place as mentioned but luckily he doesn't take up much time. 3.2.

Never been a fan of the Band Aid releases and this doesn't change that. There are some really poor vocal moments and the production is pretty horrible. Especially the guitars which just come across as unnecessary and annoyingly loud. The parts where everyone is singing is rather dire too. Honestly Dizzee Rascal isn't even that bad and actually provides something that's not typical or shit in this otherwise horrible effort. Very bad and should not have made the ARIA top 10. Worst version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" I've heard.

This is bloody awful. It has been completely butchered - from the lengthened outro to Bono's atrocious delivery, to The Darkness' shrieking guitar solo which completely takes everything away from the fact it's a CHRISTMAS song. Frankly, Dizzee Rascal's verse isn't the worst thing to happen to this track. But this version just feels cheap and thrown together without any proper musicality and arrangement skills. Oh and that video...

This has nothing to do with Christmas anymore - merely a money-maker that horribly intellectualises and commercialises all the hard work that Ure/Geldof administered in the original. It was untouchable, and definitely should have remained as such for eternity.
