War echt selten beim ersten Mal Hören so geflasht von einem Album, wie bei diesem. Super Stimme, tolle und berührende Melodien und vor allem hat Birdy Jahrgang 1996, in diesem Alter schon so eine Stimme zu haben und solch reife Musik zu machen, ist schon eine tolle Leistung, Respekt, ganz gross! |

Auch ich finde es unglaublich, dass dies die Stimme einer 15jährigen sein soll.<br>Hofffentlich bleibt sie geerdet. Adele macht's vor, das man nicht die amy oder whitney enden muss. |

I will say that for her age, she appears to have really cool taste in music. And even also, she's a strong vocalist. However, it's really hard not to call to question the fact that 10/11 songs on here are covers, and most of them aren't obscure enough to get away with it. That other track on the album does, with the rest of the songs solidify that she does have her own sound. She has potential, but still a lot to prove. |

4 plus für die Songauswahl der Covers und für die gute Umsetzung.<br><br>Mit weiteren Lobeshymnen ist man vorsichtig angesichts der Enttäuschungen, die Joss Stone nach ihrem Glanzdebüt lieferte.<br><br>Noch was zur vorbildlichen Lebensführung von Adele (siehe Widmann) ... die ist 24, Whitney Houston starb mit 48! |

Dann ist bemerkenswert, welche Songs sie sich ausgesucht hat - ich kannte bisher keinen einzigen davon (ich lebe musikalisch ja viel zu sehr in der Gegenwart), und es ist beeindruckend, welch professionellen Eindruck das ganze Album macht.<br><br>Einige der Interpretationen sind ihr einfach wunderschön geglückt - allen voran "People Help The People". Leider wird das Album mit der Zeit etwas eintönig, weil die Songs alle in etwa derselben Machart daherkommen - dafür ist ihre Stimme aber auch durchgehend angenehm anzuhören.<br><br>Ich hätte mir gerne etwas mehr Facetten gewünscht, zur Abwechslung dazwischen vielleicht einen Song mit mehr Tempo - aber grundsätzlich will ich hier gar nicht viel meckern.<br><br>"Birdy" ist durchaus ein Debüt, für das die junge Sängerin Respekt verdient!<br> |

She likes great songs, but did she have to make most of them sound so crap? She does have a decent voice, perhaps the problem is that these songs were not designed for it and it just doesn't work. I'm much more interested in her piano. I guess I'm interested to see what she comes up with next, but based on the one original song on here, I shouldn't be. |

Die junge Sängerin hat trotz ihres Alters ein beachtliches Debut hingelegt, dass der Reihe nach immer mehr Länder verzaubert und deren Charts stürmt. Während die bekanntesten Songs - "Skinny Love" und "People Help The People" - für mich die ganz grossen Highlights darstellen, gibt es noch viele weitere wunderschöne Perlen auf diesem Album.<br><br>Dass Birdy hier fast nur covert, ist absolut nicht schlimm. Die meisten Hörer dürfte die Originalstücke ja noch nicht einmal kennen :) Mich würde wundern, ob die Gute hier selbst ausgesucht hat, wen sie covern wollte. Den die Auswahl ist schon speziell und beachtlich für ihr Alter.<br>Aber auch die von ihr selbst komponierte Ballade "Without A Word" kann natürlich hier sehr überzeugen. Also wären eigene Stücke kein Problem.<br><br>Hoffe, man wird noch so einiges von ihr hören.<br><br>Highlights: Neben "People Help The People" und "Skinny Love" noch "Shelter"

YES 10 of her 11 songs from her debut album are covers BUT they are obscure to commercial listeners; so she gets away with it. For example Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Phoenix are played on Triple J a bit. <br><br>But the one thing I am amazed at is her age... SHE'S ONLY 16! And she's a damn amazing vocalist and pianist who has a bright future.<br><br> <br> <br> |

Den 5. * gibt es wirklich nur, weil sie so jung ist. Die ersten Songs des Albums sind sehr schön, aber mit der Zeit wird doch alles ziemlich schwermütig...<br>Anspieltipps: 1901, Skinny Love, People Help The People, Terrible Love |

Das Album ist eine Spur zu Balladen-Lastig ausgefallen. Die Songs einzeln betrachtet sind aber - bis auf eine Ausnahme - gut! |

I think it's difficult doing an album of mainly covers because you are constantly comparing these to the original and you (well I) and up not being able to enjoy the music as much as I normally would. Skinny Love, People Help The People and Without A Word were nice, but I wish she had more instrumentation throughout the album instead of just piano and voice. It's nice once in a while but not in the whole album. Her voice is not as developed as it will eventually be. Decent album.<br><br>3.7/6 |
