This is ...cool, I quite like her voice and the production.
**
One of the blandest choruses ever. Not a fan of this at all.
*****
Cool track. The lead singer sounds like another artist.

Average track that the cool kids are into. :P
****
Enjoyable.

This is really good!

Edit: No it's not. It is such a safe sound that has been done too many times before. The only thing remotely different from, say, "Demons" is the "cool kids" concept and female vocals. I guess it's not that bad, but it still isn't very good. I'm surprised at how big a hit this has been here.

Pretty safe track that is quite similar to Foster The People, except that it's less exciting. The chorus could certainly be far quirkier. 3.5

I don't mind the sound in general, but I'm unimpressed by the lyrics in the chorus. They just seem a bit uncreative.

This song poses an interesting point for me that rarely gets covered. You often hear views from the underground scene of what people think about the pop scene and how they'd fit there, but never the opposite. Does Flo Rida strive for the same respect as MF DOOM? Are OneRepublic hoping their next album can pull a decent to strong 7.6? Do Echosmith themselves really want to be just like the cool kids?

I think that last one might be true, but the result feels like it's been muddled by the label, who seem to be taking their success as a signpost to polish up their image, to the point of re-doing the cover art (both single and album) and the music video.

And there's probably a hint of that going on in the music too, for a band who cite Joy Division & The Smiths as influences, it's hard to not feel like they've somewhat been stripped of their potential when the product you get is rather watered down, like Haim without the edge, yet fronted by Hayley Williams' younger sister.

It's not all lost here though. The synths are nice and dreamy, and the "Every Breath You Take"/"Titanium" guitars are ear catching too. I did think from the first time I heard this that the chorus was a bit weak, and when I listen to it more, it just keeps sticking out more as a bother and a momentum killer. Works enough as a single but it's hard to imagine them keeping a fanbase with such a generic sound. 3.5

Well this has certainly brought on some chatter on the topic of "cool kids". Stepping back to before I read all about that, and about these siblings, I remember hearing this new song with a striking synth opener. I quite like this style of indie synth pop. Had I already known of this band, I probably would have been surprised of the polished production of this release, even though there is a simplicity to it.
Continues to get better with many listens. I'm interested to see if they have more hits in them. 5.2*
EDIT: My favourite song for 2014 :) 6*

Lyrics are weak, verses are weak, chorus is catchy enough for this song to be 2 stars instead of 1.

While I like it, it does already sound a little tired and dated.
*****
Love this song, not even sick of it now, so good and catchy.
*****
A great and catchy alternative track!
****
This would be a lot better if the lyrics weren't as bland. It's still good, but it's a wasted opportunity.
****
Calm and peaceful.
******
People don't get the message and hence think it is bland but I get the message and I love this song.

Nice. Pleasant. A softer and more radio friendly version of Haim I guess. I did quite like this at the time but it hasn't aged the best. Still good enough on the occasional times I do hear it nowadays at least.
