****
King's debut album is a remarkable experiment where country meets punk rock in a vintage atmosphere. I think she could be Ivy Levan's elder sister.
****
Quite enjoyable.
*****
I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Elle King's music is quite unique and seems authentic, not to mention she sounds great and totally owns the topics that she sings of. Besides Ex's & Oh's, which is obviously one that I love quite a bit, America's Sweetheart, See You Again and I Told You I Was Mean are all quite good tracks, with Elle King showing her vulnerability quite a bit in some of the later tracks, contrasting well with the bigger early ones. It's a shame she didn't enjoy a couple more solid hits from here, then I'd be confident that we'd get another album from her. A good effort. 4.5/6.
