This is so captivating. Lana is an amazing lyricist and this is possibly her best ever effort in that regard. It's depressing and beautiful and heartbreaking and hopeful all in one. It's so well written, and comes across as incredibly genuine; whether reflecting sadly on her past, or discussing the "monsters" she's fighting, Lana really feels like she's putting everything out there for the world to know. The piano melodies that accompany her gorgeous vocal are perfectly suited to this song. Much more than that going on would be far too much for what is essentially Lana baring her soul for everyone. As ever, Lana's vocal is beautiful and only adds to the authenticity this track offers. After an array of witty, insightful and heartbreaking lyircs; and there are a lot of them in this incredibly wordy song; it's perhaps the final lines which leave the most lasting impact. Until this point she's left the title line without its last few words. The simple addition of "but I have it" when discussing hope changes the context completely and leaves a lasting impression. Before that, it feels like it's not a happy song in any way, but the offering of hope in spite of everything that has come before is incredibly uplifting. Damn, this is brilliant. What an artist.
