****
I feel like I enjoyed listening to this from start to finish moreso than I did "Sigh No More", so perhaps I might need to re-evaluate that one. With this album I have a more firm understanding of Mumford & Sons' widespread popularity. They're inoffensive, but keep the music lively and upbeat, while chucking in plenty of big hooks ("I Will Wait", "Broken Crown" etc). So the album's pretty fun to listen to, but it really lacks the big high points that made "Sigh No More" stand out.
****
It's probably a more consistently enjoyable album than Sigh No More however it doesn't stand out in the same way, possibly due to lacking something as massive as Little Lion Man. Despite that, there are some real highlights here, namely Hopeless Wanderer and there's nothing which lacks quality.

I think it's a far better effort than 'Sigh No More' and shows some natural progression in their sound, but they still fall into the trap in having most of their songs sound the same. With many of the tracks, you could imagine them all rolling in together to form one mega-long track. That being said, there are some songs I really enjoyed, obviously I Will Wait, but also the brittle and quiet 'Reminder', and the atmospheric 'Ghosts That We Knew'. There are no tracks that I found actively irritating as well, which tends to be quite possible with such prominent use of the banjo. All in all, a pretty enjoyable listen.

Better than: U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind
Not as good as: Annie Lennox - Diva
****
This is the first Mumford & Sons album I have willingly listened to so it's hard to really judge how far they've come without any knowledge of their previous works. I only really found about them after they hit it big with I Will Wait. Overall, what makes this album interesting to me is the constant recurring themes of religion spread throughout each song. They tell stories to the listener but one of the main drawbacks is that it's presented with songs that sound so sameish. Still, it's not too bad but they tend to blend together.
