***** This was really gratifying for me. What drew me into her music after all, was her voice. Treading between soulful, playful & powerful in such a way that's a delight to my ears. Though last year when she put out an album, I couldn't help but feel that a part of this went astray. Not a lot had changed necessarily, but I couldn't help but feel that the vocals sometimes took a backseat to the music.

This has reversed any possible pessimism I might have built from that. And I wouldn't have expected so, since this is a Daft Punk cover, a group not exactly known for having prominent vocal strength as part of their repertoire. Though of course this song is something of an exception, and subsequently surprisingly emotive. And she just kills it on this; vocals extremely prominent and possibly stronger than I've heard on any other recordings she's done. It's just really soothing and lovely, and it made me go back to Daft Punk's "Discovery" which I don't at all regret. |
