They don't come any more honest than this. Tracy Chapman's tale of poverty, failed parenting and "making ends meet" has never lost any of its charm. Accompanied by a simple guitar riff, this portrays the stark reality of broken down families while still managing hope and romance ("you're arm felt nice wrapped round my shoulder"). With the song ending how it began, you get the feeling nothing is going to change, but we all enjoyed the ride.

Wow! Such a great lyrics. Amazing song :)
*****
Carries a lovely tune that builds and builds to a great chorus. 5.5

Not amazing or great for me but enjoyable nonetheless. I agree with others above, until 2012 I thought this was by a man.
***
Gender confusion aside I don't feel anything from this.
******
A classic, and glad I'm not the only one that thought initially this was by a man.

It's pretty much perfect

Wonderful track!
****
Mooie ballad en nummer 1 hit maar ik vond de opvolger nog beter. Het Mandela live concert maakte indruk.

The Fast Car that I know will forever be the best one. How dare Luke Combs took this cover in his own country element. I stan Tracy all day. Period!!!
