***** I love Like a Version, even though it's usually on at an awkward timeslot for me so I barely ever catch it on the initial broadcast. #6 is the only other one in the series that I've heard all the way through, but I can safely say that I prefer this one to it. It's just an overall very solid tracklisting, with just about every track giving a sense of "Ooh, I'd like to hear from that artist", or "Ooh, I'd like to see someone do that song". And it's just totally fun; while covers have a tendency to completely miss the mark to the point where I can hate them just for having the audacity to try to tackle a song, there's no stigma here, so I can't hate on any of the ones that I totally would under normal circumstances, (see "Buy Me a Pony", "Somebody That I Used To Know"). The whole thing is thoroughly enjoyable, and if I had to pick favourites, in no particular order, I'd go for "Pumped Up Kicks", "Runaway", "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" (A testament as I'm not big on the original), "Reckless" & "Clint Eastwood". Great collection and great to see it crack the top 10. |
